Check your firewall settings.

Have you looked at your firewall settings recently? If it has been a long time, or you have left it to your security software - check this week. Why? Children are very good at finding and changing these settings. Sometimes by mistake. Sometimes to turn off the firewall for a few minutes so that they can download a game. But they forget to turn the firewall back on  -  so it is still turned off and allowing viruses onto your devices in the home. If your child is in secondary school, you can do the firewall settings together.

"New shoes, new phones… new social networks?
A new school term can mean kids are introduced to new sites and apps, so it’s important to stay up-to-date with their favourites and to keep an eye on security settings.

Here are our four steps for keeping children safe online this term. It's really simple. Just work as a TEAM:

  • Talk to your child regularly about what they are doing online

  • Explore their favourite sites together

  • Agree rules about what’s OK and what's not

  • Manage technology and use safety settings and controls"

Live streaming

CEOP, the government agency for child exploitation and online protection, have produced this 1-minute animation to highlight to parents the risks of children using online streaming.  Click on the image to go to the video "Who is Sam"?

They have also produced a factsheet of information. Click on the button to download the information.
